SMS alerting allows to be alerted even when your network is down. SMS alerts are sent through a 3G modem using the mobile phone network. The Monitoring Appliance ships with a 3G Modem. This modem requires a SIM card (AT&T or T-Mobile in the US). As it is simple text messaging, no data plan is needed.
