Switched (remote reboot) and metered power monitoring

The ServersCheck PDU's enable users to not only monitor power usage (metered) of each individual outlet but also to remotely disconnect and connect devices connected to the individual outlets. It is an open solution and can be managed through the web interface or through SNMP. By supporting SNMP, it integrates with any SNMP management software such as Tivoli, OpenView, CA, ... and of course the ServersCheck Monitoring Software (release 8.0.2 or higher).

1. Remote Reboot (switched PDU)

Reboot is part of an administrator's often used vocabulary. Too often a reboot seems to be the best cure to recover from non-responding devices like routers, switches and servers.

Performing a cold reboot is easy when you are next to the device. Unfortunately most of the time, problems occur when one is not close to the device.

In most monitoring softwares, one can define to perform a soft reboot when a Windows based server is not performing as expected. A soft reboot will have no effect when facing a system that is completly blocked. The soft reboot option is not available for devices such as routers, switches, firewalls and other networked equipment. In such situations the only option is to perform a cold reboot; this is when the power to a device is cycled (turned off and then on).

The ServersCheck PDU is a remote reboot unit that allows to remotely to perform a cold reboot of a unit. The reboot can be triggered by the ServersCheck Monitoring Software or by connecting to the web interface of the ServersCheck PDU.

2. Outlet power usage monitoring (metered PDU)

While remote reboot functionality is commonly available in today's PDU units being sold, power metering is less frequent. The 0U (vertical) unit and the 1U unit allow users to monitor through SNMP the PDU's total power consumption. The ServersCheck 1U Horizontal PDU goes a step further by allowing over SNMP to monitor the power usage of each individual power outlet.

Out of the box the ServersCheck Monitoring Software (release 8.0.2 or higher) to centrally monitor power usage on the PDU.
